Bethlehem Church History

We are here under the divine inspirational guidance of God by moving upon the heart of Pastor Thomas with the vision and guidance to start a new church and call it Bethlehem from Hebrew meaning bread. It shall be called the house of bread for it will be where my people shall be nourished in the word. The Lord spoke to Rev. Blakely to open his heart and allow our Pastor to use his building to hold service. On January 5, 1997 Pastor Thomas preached from Proverbs 16:3 “I’m Committed,” the message focused on the commitment to God and His word. When the invitation to discipleship was given, 47 souls joined and Bethlehem Baptist Church of Picayune was born. God has continued to bless the church by adding souls to our church role.   Bethlehem continues on its rise to higher heights. “I Press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14. On March 17, 2002 Bethlehem celebrated the commencement of our Groundbreaking Ceremony. In May 2002 the foundation was poured and the beginning of the building was in process. On July 27, 2003 we moved into our church building: Glorifying and giving God all the Praise and Honor for the great things He has done.   While enjoying the blessing of our new church edifice, Pastor Thomas prayed and the Lord led him in the direction of giving God hallelujah praise in celebrating the blessings that have been showered before him with a 30 Day- Praise Dedication Service. Pastor Thomas wanted to give God the highest praise with the scripture “O Magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt His name together.” Psalm 34:3 the 30-Day Praise Service was September 1-30, 2003 and the Dedication of the Church service was held on Sunday, September 28, 2003 at 3:00 PM.     The church has New Members Orientation Class, Prayer Meeting and Bible Study on Tuesday night. We have strong Deacons and Trustees, Adult Choir, Mass Choir, Youth Choir, Male Chorus, Ushers, Mission Auxiliary, Pastor’s Aide, Pastor’s Anniversary Committee, Dance Ministry and Brotherhood.   Our Mission here at Bethlehem is to be God’s Tabernacle and His witness not only in the city, but also abroad; jail houses, byways, highways and airways (meaning radio and television). Pray with us as we continue to march to the drumbeat of God, and look to Him for guidance.   Bethlehem, “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31    “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor heights, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38.39

Bethlehem is currently under construction:   Phase Two of the vision The Lord has given Pastor Thomas is currently in its final stages. This building will serve as the main church edifice which will also include a fellowship hall. We pray God’s blessings for Bethlehem that we will continue to remain steadfast, unmovable always abounding in the works of the Lord! God Bless!
